"We will welcome the air show tradition back to Fort Lauderdale with two days of aerial displays on April 24 and April 25," said Seiler. City Commission Discusses Air Show

Brittany Wallman | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
9:20 PM EDT, April 21, 2009

FORT LAUDERDALE - In other action, city commissioners Tuesday:

---Told Mike Luba and Marc Stollman of S2BN, formerly of Events Acquisition Corp., they can hold their one- or two-day live music festival at the beach in May 2010, tentatively May 15-16, as long as it doesn't conflict with
Mother's Day, the annual ophthalmologists convention and the planned Air Lauderdale show. The air show might be moved back to April, closer to Fleet Week. The music festival was originally scheduled for May of this year.

Vote for what you would like to see at the New Air Show!

What would you like to see at the new Air Show?

Air Show back in 2010 in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE - It's still just a speck on the horizon, but a new air show is on its way.

The promoter of Air Lauderdale — the new name for what was once an annual air and sea tradition at Fort Lauderdale beach — said the show is coming together for spring 2010. No dates are set yet, but a Web site is up at airlauderdale.com, promoter/producer Stanton Smith said.

The last air show was two years ago.

And a proposed live music two-day festival that was to take place at the beach in May is asking for a 2010 launch date as well.

Among those already asking for dates is Finton Wallace of Newport, R.I. He caught the show with family members in the mid-1990s, and was hooked. He's ready to come back as soon as the air show does.

Fort Lauderdale air show on track for 2010, with a new name and website

From SunSentinel.com:

The annual air show is still taxiing toward a 2010 launch
.

Stanton Smith, one of two local businessmen given permission by city commissioners to create a new air show, said he's still working on it. He doesn't have dates yet, but so far the plans are going well. He's asked the U.S. military to participate, and he said "every indicator suggests they’re very anxious to return.''

The show does have a new name: Air Lauderdale
. Here's the website. They're also on Facebook. Click here.

The show that was formerly called the Air and Sea Show drew hundreds of thousands to the Fort Lauderdale beachfront every May from 1995 to 2007 to watch military fighter plans and stunt pilots.

It had its detractors, though. Former Commissioner Christine Teel said she heard earfuls about it from the Galleria Mall, because the show coincided with the weekend before Mother's Day and reportedly put a big damper on that once-lucrative shopping time for the mall. She insisted no air show in the future be held on that weekend.

But Teel's gone, and four members of the City Commission are new. They'll be talking tomorrow about big beach events, the air show included.

A beach music festival that was pitched as an event on the same huge scale as the air show is not going to take place this May as planned. .

Past commissioners said they wanted the live music festival, and the air show, as long as the two aren't the same weekend.

Looks like they'll both be launched in 2010, and this year will be quiet.
